The thing nobody prepared me for was not the tool. It was the stranger in the mirror.

I have described the week in Trivandrum many times now — the twenty-fold productivity multiplier, the engineers reaching across domain boundaries they had never crossed, the backend specialist who built her first user interface in two days. The metrics are real. The transformation was measurable. But the metric I keep returning to is the one I could not measure: the look on the senior engineer's face when he realized that the thing he had spent twenty years becoming was no longer the thing the world most needed him to be.
