Denkstil (Thought Style)

The specific configuration of cognitive habits, perceptual sensitivities, and evaluative standards that determines what members of a thought collective can see, what counts as evidence, and what questions are worth asking.
If the thought collective is the community of perception, the Denkstil — thought style — is its operating system. Not a set of beliefs but the framework within which beliefs become possible: the pre-cognitive organization of attention that directs perception toward certain features of the world and away from others before any conscious interpretation begins. Two scientists from different collectives can look at the same data and see genuinely different things — not because one is biased and the other objective, but because their thought styles foreground different patterns, background different anomalies, and make different details available for conscious attention. The thought style is the lens through which perception passes, and like any lens it both reveals and distorts, with the distortion invisible from within because the thought style is precisely the thing that determines what visibility means.
