Every information network in history has faced a lethal vulnerability: inability to recognize its own errors before they become catastrophic. Roman roads transmitted plagues as efficiently as military commands. Medieval Church networks suppressed the questioning that might have prevented institutional corruption. Totalitarian propaganda achieved saturation—and brittleness, unable to hear criticism, accumulating errors until collapse. Harari's Nexus framework identifies self-correction as the key variable in network survival: democracy (citizens remove failing leaders), science (peer review discards flawed findings), journalism (errors caught and corrected).
