Reduced Personal Accomplishment

The self-evaluative dimension of burnout — the <em>erosion</em> of professional competence and meaningful contribution — which AI tools invert through efficacy inflation that masks developing depletion beneath amplified accomplishment.
Reduced personal accomplishment — also termed reduced efficacy — is the self-evaluation dimension of the burnout syndrome. It describes the declining sense of competence, contribution, and professional impact that typically accompanies sustained exhaustion and cynicism. The worker who experiences reduced efficacy feels that her efforts make no difference, that her skills are inadequate, that her trajectory has stalled. This dimension compounds the other two because it undermines the motivation to persist: the exhausted worker who still believes in her contribution can marshal reserves to continue; the exhausted worker who no longer believes her efforts matter cannot. In AI-augmented work, this dimension is inverted — inflated rather than reduced — with clinical consequences the framework must now accommodate.
