Headcount Reduction vs. Capability Expansion
The archetypal organizational choice AI forces — convert the productivity multiplier into <em>fewer workers with the same output</em> or into <em>the same workers with expanded capability</em>. The choice that determines whether the transition produces expansion or contraction.
When a single engineer with AI tools can produce what twenty engineers produced before, the organization faces a choice that the arithmetic presents with uncomfortable clarity.
