Dimitri Christakis is the George Adkins Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington, director of the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development at Seattle Children's Research Institute, and Editor-in-Chief of JAMA Pediatrics. His 2004 landmark study demonstrating a dose-response relationship between early television exposure and subsequent attentional problems reshaped pediatric screen-time recommendations worldwide and informed the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines. His research program extended from television through interactive media and digital devices, consistently applying developmental-neuroscience frameworks to emerging technologies and advocating evidence-based approaches that account for children's unique developmental vulnerabilities.
