The AI democratization narrative is the contemporary reproduction of a rhetorical structure Morozov first diagnosed in The Net Delusion: the celebration of expanded individual capability as if it constituted democratization in the politically meaningful sense, while the governance power over the infrastructure on which the capability depends remains concentrated in a small number of corporations. The narrative directs attention to the capability that has been distributed and away from the governance that has been retained.
