Nations that navigate crises successfully can look at their circumstances and articulate, clearly and publicly, what is happening, what it means, and what must change. Nations that fail substitute ideology for assessment, insisting that their existing practices are fundamentally sound and that the crisis is temporary, external, or manageable within the current framework. The AI transition demands honest self-appraisal of a particularly uncomfortable kind — the acknowledgment that many of the practices, institutions, and professional structures that define contemporary society may be maladapted to the environment now emerging.
