Allometry is the study of how proportions change when scale changes. Galileo understood, three centuries before the science was formalized, that an organism cannot simply be enlarged: the physics of load-bearing at elephant scale demands a different architecture than the physics of load-bearing at mouse scale, and the elephant that tried to be built on the mouse’s proportions would collapse under its own weight.
