Nature Exposed to Our Method of Questioning

Heisenberg's principle that what we observe is never the system itself but the system as our apparatus reveals it—the philosophical foundation that transforms AI evaluation from the reading of fixed facts into the construction of apparatus-relative findings.
What we observe is not nature itself, but nature exposed to our method of questioning. Werner Heisenberg meant this technically: the experimental arrangement a physicist chooses determines which aspect of a quantum system can manifest, so the question the physicist asks is part of producing the answer she receives. There is no apparatus-free view of a quantum system; every observation is an observation-through-a-method, and the method shapes the result as fundamentally as the system does. Transposed to the evaluation of artificial intelligence, this principle does not merely suggest that AI evaluation is imperfect. It suggests something harder: that the capability, the alignment, the reasoning ability, or the safety property we attribute to an AI system is not a fixed property we are reading off but a dispositional finding brought into apparent definiteness by a specific interrogation method.
