The word that kept tripping me was "right."

Not right as in correct. Not right as in morally defensible. Right as in — this sentence belongs here and not there. This color works and that one doesn't. This architectural choice holds weight and that one collapses under scrutiny even though both compile clean.

I have spent my entire career making judgment calls I could not fully explain. Choosing between two prototypes that both function but only one of which feels like it deserves to exist. Looking at a screen and knowing something is off before I can articulate what. Every builder knows this sensation. Every builder also knows the discomfort of not being able to defend it in a meeting where the other prototype has better metrics.
