The question that haunts me is not the one I wrote the book about.
In You On AI, I asked: "Are you worth amplifying?" I meant it as the hardest question I could pose. A way of turning the spotlight off the machine and onto the human standing in front of it. I still think it is the right question for a builder to ask. But there is a question underneath it that I could not reach from inside the frame I was building in.
What are you, when there is nothing left to amplify?
That is Heidegger's territory. Not AI. Not productivity. Not what the machine can do or what the market rewards. The question of what it means to be — to exist
