That sentence hit me harder than any technical benchmark I encountered in 2025. Conrad Gessner, a Swiss naturalist in 1545, tried to list every book ever printed in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. He got to about ten thousand titles. The printing presses kept running. His life's work was out of date the moment he finished it.
