The Premature Prometheus
The psychological argument — drawn from
Jung's 1957 warning about nuclear dynamite — that the AI tool's transpersonal capabilities are being placed in the hands of developing psyches whose egos have not consolidated enough to hold them.
The myth of Prometheus carries a warning that acquires unprecedented urgency in the age of artificial intelligence: the fire was genuine, its utility real, and the punishment was not arbitrary but reflected a truth the rationalist interpretation has consistently missed — there are gifts the recipient is not yet prepared to receive, and the unpreparedness is a structural danger rather than a temporary inconvenience. The fire that warms the mature adult burns the child who has not yet learned what fire demands. Jung cautioned in 1957 that "the announcement of an important truth, even with the best of intentions, can lead to an extraordinary mess... it is therefore important to husband dangerous material very carefully so that first graders do not get hold of dynamite."
