Livingry and Weaponry
Fuller's structural distinction between technology deployed for the support of all life and technology deployed for competitive advantage
at the expense of the whole system — the design question the AI amplifier forces.
Livingry and weaponry are Fuller's structural categories for technological deployment. The distinction is not about destructive intent but about optimization boundary. Weaponry, in Fuller's usage, extends far beyond military hardware: it encompasses any technology whose benefit to its wielder comes at a cost to the commons. Livingry is the opposite — technology deployed for the support of all life within the system it affects. The categories are determined not by the technology itself but by the design intelligence that governs its deployment. The same AI that optimizes a farm's yield while depleting the watershed is weaponry; the same AI modeling the watershed's integrated health is livingry. The tool is neutral. The
amplifier works with whatever signal it receives. The signal determines the category.

Fuller argued that the history of technology is a history of competition between these two deployments, and that weaponry had won most of the rounds. Nuclear fission could have
