When a human choice is presented as a natural force, a technical requirement, or a market inevitability, it becomes invulnerable to democratic contestation. You cannot vote on the weather. The move from 'we chose this' to 'this is how things are' converts the political into the apparently given, and the apparent givenness protects the actors who benefited from the original choice by making the choice invisible.
