Cognitive Diversity

The multiplicity of perspectives, experiences, and ways of seeing a problem that a team provides as a byproduct of its existence — and that the solo builder working with AI must now deliberately import to compensate for its absence.
When multiple people work on a problem, they bring multiple perspectives: different experiences, different training, different intuitions about what matters and what does not. The backend engineer sees the data model one way. The frontend engineer sees it through the lens of user interaction. The product manager sees it through the lens of market fit. The user researcher sees it through the lens of actual behavior observed in actual people. Each viewpoint is partial. Their collision produces understanding that no single viewpoint generates. This is cognitive diversity, and in team-based development it is a byproduct of the team's existence rather than a deliberately imported resource. It operates continuously, automatically, and often unconsciously — someone asks have you considered what happens when the user does X? and the question reveals a gap in the design that the designer did not know existed.
