The laptop I couldn't close over the Atlantic wasn't the confession that haunted me. The confession that haunted me was that I didn't want to close it.
That distinction — between inability and unwillingness — is the crack through which everything in this book enters. I wrote *You On AI* about a world where the distance between imagination and artifact has collapsed to the width of a conversation. I celebrated that collapse. I still celebrate it. But celebration without accounting is just noise, and for months after the orange pill, I could not produce the accounting.
